Certain banks have a noted hunger for hiring; others are haemorrhaging staff at a rate unknown for several years and will need to backfill shortly if they are to keep client relationships on a positive footing. As ever, good salespeople are in demand with firms now paying sign-on bonuses again, a welcome indicator of improved market confidence.   As for me, I'm off later this week on a ten day trip to Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong meeting [...]

Williams Reminder!!!

Yes, it's that time of year again, and the Williams Network Event will take place at its traditional home, the Williams Ale and Wine Tavern on Artillery Lane E1 7LS on Thursday May 5th starting at 4pm. All Network and Network-relevant folk are invited to attend as usual. I'll be travelling in Asia unfortunately but Peter Shepherd will look after proceedings. Many congratulations to Andy Duffin of SocGen who raised over £3,200 for charity by completing his first London Marathon on Sunday in 4 hours 10 minutes. Good work fella.

The Portman Gallery

A well-known female private wealth banking professional has branched out to become an investor and silent partner in a brand new art gallery with a difference, The Portman Gallery. It opened its virtual doors to sell emerging art to collectors online in March; the first sale came just hours after the launch and since then the orders and enquiries have been flooding in.  Our art-focused banker says, "The gallery's primary objective is to use curated exhibitions as a platform to showcase artists work, as opposed to the current trend for 'online art shops'". Art lovers take note and snap something up online quickly before the current exhibition ends -www.theportmangallery.com.
